Learning and Migration Program (LAMP)

Project Objective:
  • Improving quality of education in areas affected by distress seasonal migration
  • Improving overall school governance through active engagement of multiple stakeholders and empowered and strengthen adolescent Girls’ group.
Coverage area:
  • 30 villages from Danta Block of Banaskantha district and 15 villages from Poshina Block of Sabarkantha District.

Children (6 year to 14 years)

Activities:
  • Toreducetheextent ofchild migrationandensure thatall childrenofages 6-14years, especially girls, attend school for theentire academic year
  • To create an environment in thearea that promoteseducationand encourages children, especially girls,tocontinue schooling through Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and Learning Enrichments Program (LEP)
  • To strengthen school governancethrough issue-based consultation, SMC & PRI training, community participation in school Governance,particularlywithinthe purview of RTE Act,2009
  • Formed and strengtheningSMCfederations in both the blocks
  • Toincreasetransitionrate from elementary(Grade 8)to secondary (Grade 9), especiallythatofgirls
  • Form and/or activate adolescent Girls’ groups(grades7-10)in25 villages
Program benefit:
  • Leveraging technology to successfully improve learning of children under the age of 6 to 14 years in Learning Resource Centres (LRCs);
  • With the help and support of Citizen Educator’s group (Youth group) and girls’ group, constantly maintained 90-95% enrolment in all 45 villages;
  • Successfully reduce/retained over 80% migrant children in 45 migration affected villages, especially girls, attend school for the entire academic year;
  • Successfully created an environment in the area that promotes education and encourages children, especially girls, to continue schooling through LRCs & LEP classes;
  • With the effort of Citizen Educators & Girls’ group, successfully reduce more than 70% dropout of children and regularized irregular children in the schools;
  • SMC and PRI members have also started actively participating in monitoring STP (Special Training Program) classes and regularity of the teachers;
  • Demonstration of community-led learning audits in 10 schools and,
  • Technical support to SMCs to developed School Development Plans (SDPs), in 10 schools every year.

Project Objective:

‘STEM for Girls’ is an aimed at improving education-to-work and career pathways for girls who are studying in Government schools.

Coverage area:

37 Secondary Schools of 4 Districts (16 schools in Junagadh, 12 schools in Bhavnagar, 3 schools in Botad& 6 schools in Banaskantha)

Beneficiaries:

AdolescentGirls (15 to 18 years)

Activities:
  • Capacity building of the ecosystem to implement, sustain and scale interventions in digital literacy, coding and 21st century skills in the secondary school
  • Strengthening adolescent girls to take up STEM careers.
  • Improving support from parents for girls to take up STEM subjects and careers.
  • Heightened awareness of gender norms and STEM career pathways.
  • Confidence building among girls in using computer and building simple projects from scratch.
  • Orientation of parents to support their daughters education and career ambition
  • Meetings with District Education Officers
  • Ensuring girls enrolments and checking in for absenteeism
  • Improving‘Students’ regularity and retention in school
  • Session activities in classroom by the facilitators.
  • Community involvement through parents meeting, home visit and data collection.

Virtual Engagement During Covid-19 period

Approach 1:

Online engagement strategy- Students cover through mobile phones. Medium: WhatsApp messenger, video call and hangout meet

Approach 2:

Offline mode (community support)-Providing printed modules and worksheets to students who do not have access to computers or the internet. Medium: Our team/facilitators connect with your local sangathan leaders and collaboration with other project staff to disseminate resources to remote areas.

Approach 3:

Mobile Library: Total 400 Girls who do not have mobile phones have cover through rented 40 mobiles and 10 existing tablets under this approach.
