Research and Training unit is one of the wings of Human Development and Research Centre. It functions both as a resource support wing to other units and programs as well as an independent unit taking up relevant action research for civil society organisations. The unit is anchored on the belief that engagement with people in their process of empowerment and development must be supported by research. Therefore research taken up by this unit is not a mere academic exercise but is designed to generate knowledge that help actors and organisations in their work with the marginalised communities. The unit usually takes up research/studies that create and interface between theory and practice by learning form socio-economic and political reality of people and augmenting the understanding of reality through research studies. The knowledge and understanding built through the studies/research support HDRC’s development practices, programs and initiatives. The unit also publishes the research findings in the form of research reports, booksand articles in journals.
Besides studies and research this team also engages in teaching academic courses, at the graduate and post graduate level and conduct training programs in area of development, gender empowerment and organization development. The unit also provides guidance and support to post graduate students placed with HDRC for practicum.
